Real Estate Monument Colorado

 

Monument Colorado is a town of about 5,000 people located between Colorado Springs and Denver, about 15 miles north of Colorado Springs. The town has been growing at a fairly substantial rate, and there are now many national retailers and restaurants opening up facilities in or near Monument, including the likes of Wal-Mart, Home Depot, and Kohl’s to name a few. Monument sits on what is called the Palmer Divide, and the altitude on Interstate 25 at the top of Monument hill is about 7,300 feet. So the town is higher in altitude than Colorado Springs, which is at about 6,000 feet, and the mile high city of Denver. Much of Monument is a bedroom community for people who work both in Colorado Springs and Denver. There are local shops and an increasing amount of local commerce. Monument has gained celebrity in recent years for its July 4 parade, which is sort of an old-time small town America parade. People come from quite a distance to watch or participate in the parade each year.

Monument gets a fair amount of precipitation, and much of the town that is east of Interstate 25 is wooded and actually part of what is known locally as the Black Forest. Even though we can experience a good bit of snow in the winter, summers stay cool in Monument because of the 7,000+ ft. of elevation, and summers are especially pleasant here. Although known for its ski resorts, Colorado has a lot of sunshine, averaging over 300 sunny days per year.

As for real estate, Colorado did not bear the brunt of the housing bubble like other areas, so housing prices didn’t go through the roof in the boom years and drop through the floor lately. Prices did go up and down certainly, but not to the exorbitant extent seen in places like Nevada, Arizona, and some parts of Florida and California.
